Very nervous about root canal numbing

I'm having my 1st root canal in a couple of weeks. Will the numbing be the same as a cap or filling? It is a lower molar. It will move forward like usual? Not backwards into my throat? I also worry about nerve damage from the shots . I am a flute player and need all of the feeling in my lips. Can anyone help?

Exactly the same as for a filling. Nerve damage is super rare, try not to worry about it.
