Hey there. I've got the dentist on monday and I'm still scared as to what might be up with my mouth, the left hand masseter muscle is much smaller than the right hand one and is very sensitive, and my wisdom tooth on that side hits the bone each time I bite down, its been like this since sometime last year. Is this common? o.o

Hi Ian,

Sorry I can't help you with your question; maybe it's just a case of your bite being a little off so your teeth don't meet exactly when you close your mouth? Good for you for getting to the dentist to find out what might be causing it. Good luck!

Thanks for replying. I'm just so scared right now, he could say anything x.x What if he can't even figure out whats wrong. x.x

IanM88,

I think that the most important thing to remember is that you are taking the first huge step to getting the problem fixed. So, a big CONGRATULATIONS for that! Also, even if you don't have a 'common' problem (I can't say whether it is or not), dentists are also trained to deal with less common problems and I'm sure that the dentist you see will want to figure out (as much as you do) what is causing the problem. Good luck to you and try not to stress out too much over the weekend (WAY easier said than done, I know -- I'm already stressing about an appt that's 2 weeks away ) and try to give yourself a huge pat on the back for taking this big first step. Please let us know how things work out.

NHS Dentist too, i'm unemployed and my family uses him.

I'm having the gas or I'm walking x.x

D Day tomorrow. x.x

I don't know what i'm scared of more, finding out whats wrong with me, or him being unable to treat it.

I just have to keep telling myself that its his job to heal me.

You won't have anything wrong that can't be fixed by the dentist, is it a new dentist?

Good luck IanM88!

I think it's pretty unlikely that your dentist won't be able to treat you, or at least refer you to a specialist who can. Beyond just fixing teeth, dentists are pretty educated in the anatomy of the mouth and jaw. It's also pretty surprising how interconnected things are in your mouth-- sometimes a simple problem with one tooth can transmit pain and discomfort to other parts of your mouth.

Definitely focus on that fact: the dentist is there to help you get better. Despite their reputation in the movies, every dentist I've met has been really passionate and dedicated to helping people get better. I'm sure your dentist will be no different and that you'll soon be on your way to a pain-free, healthy mouth.

Good luck and keep us posted! Take good care of yourself today and tonight and see if you can find some good distractions to help the time pass.

Went very well. :3 Turns out my jaw thing is just typical reaction to grinding, one muscle smaller than the other. I've got a bite guard on the go and a page of jaw exercises lol.
