I had my first crown appointment ever, on my LR7 tooth which is root canalled.
It was done on Monday, and it's very very sore now - it's a very distintive sore pain inside around the lower corner of the jaw and radiating out into the ear. The gums are completely fine and the external surfaces are fine and don't hurt.
The tooth is on it's own (no tooth either side) and at an awkward position leaning inwards. The temporary crown is like a little plate on top of it (it doesn't even begin to touch the gums at all), and it's rough and rubs my tongue.
The crown fell off on Tuesday morning (the dentist said it might), and the pain started easing up a bit. Then I went back to have it put back on, which was done successfully. Then the pain started coming back and built up over a few hours.
So the pain is due to the temporary crown being on.
It's very hard to eat and drink, but aspirin is helping and I did sleep last night. I have to wait until Tuesday to get the permanent crown put on.
The bite on the temporary crown feels perfectly fine - not too high or low, it feels normal. I feel like my bite is completely the same and comfortable.
Why am I getting this strong sore pain? I was wondering whether the strong pushing he had to do on the tooth had irritated the nerves connecting to the tooth, then when he had to replace the temporary crown again he had to do more strong pushing, and that could be the reason the pain eased during the period when the crown fell off.
Or the glue, cement or eugenol he used was absorbed by the tooth and then went through to irritate the nerves connected to the tooth in the jaw?
Is it normal to be feeling this much pain from a temporary crown like this?
Will all this pain go away with my permanent crown?
Thank you very much.
