Dental websites of interest to anxious patients in Watford, Hertfordshire:

[broken link removed]
Adrian Mullish - dentist who accepted payment from Damian Hirst in artwork instead of cash. Described as 'kind' by Tracy Emin.
Website mentions unrushed relaxed care with painfree treatment the aim. TheWand and sedation available.

Hi, any idea where you read/saw that The Wand and sedation are available? I can't see it anywhere on the website.

Under the heading "No pain", it says: "We also use a computer-controlled injection system called “The Wand”. For those patients who are more anxious, we offer several levels of dental sedation."

Interesting! I called them yesterday and was told that they refer patients to other facilities if they require sedation. That would have been after the receptionist told me I was 'silly' for not being able to pluck up the courage to pop into the surgery to have a look round !!

Hi All

I have double checked this, and Adrian Mullish definitely does not offer sedation in house. He refers you to one of the local sedation clinics and/or hospitals dependent on what treatment is needed.

Hope this helps!

I just wondered if anyone on this forum has actually been to this practice? I am debating to either go there or to one called The Practice on the Green in Bushey, as both have late night openings and have TV's on the ceiling to distract you :)

I am not aware that anyone has been there yet.

I know both Adrian Mullish and Wayne Hirshchowitz (practice on the green) socially. Whilst I have not seen them working I do believe that both are caring and competent practitioners.

You could do a lot worse than seeing either of these guys.

Just called them. The lady who answered the phone (dentists assistant) did seem very kind and understanding, but was clear that they refer folks for sedation.

Thank you for your replies.

I don't think I need sedation as although I am scared of going to the dentist I have managed in the past to have root canal work and other things done without flipping out. My main problem is that I have agoraphobia and find it hard to actually get to the dentist, so my anxieties are not so much about what the dentist is doing, rather the feeling that I am trapped once they start doing something :o

I went to the Practice on the Green in Bushey this evening and they offer IV sedation for nervous patients. They also have a TV on the ceiling so that you can watch TV while they work on your teeth. I will post in a more appropriate part of the forum about my check up :censored:

Thanks to Mercedes and everyone else for contributing to this thread. I still haven't managed to pluck up the courage to have treatment done, so am monitoring this to see what develops.

Is there a website for the Practice on the Green? I haven't been able to find one but it may just be my general dental 'blindness'.

I've just found a terrifc dentist in Watford (well actually Croxley Green) he's call Imran, a fantastic guy and has been absolutely wonderful (and im a very nervous patient!) thouroughly recommended ! the practise also does IV

Chartwell clinic in Croxley Green

Interesting post jebervic.

I contacted Chartwell a while back and was advised that they only accept referrals. They said that patients can, under certain circumstances, refer themselves but that would be as a one off (and they much preferred a dentist to refer the person), ie the person could not continue to go there as they did not offer dental treatment per se.

I have just contacted them and they have advised that they now have two 'sides'. They are offering general dentistry and are taking on new patients. They have a new dentist called Betty who starts in April. She will hopefully be doing her own sedations. More specialised sedations will be referred internally to the other 'side' of the practice, ie sedation specialists.

Referrals from other dentists are also being handled by the specialists. These dentists will not be offering general dentistry at this time.

Re: Practice on the Green Bushey

I went to Practice on the Green, Bushey, yesterday. I have an extreme dental phobia and suffer from panic attacks and agoraphobia. I checked in at reception and was so frightened and panicked and about to leave. I told the receptionist how scared I was. She asked me not to leave before she had spoken to the dentist. I was then invited to go and just chat to her (Claudia Benjamin). What a lovely lady. We talked about my phobia and I eventually calmed down enough to let her look at my teeth and take xrays. She explained what she was doing and the results of the xrays and examination. She was so compassionate, kind and understanding. The dentist agreed to refer me to Chartwell to have the work done.

If anyone from the practice reads this, thank you for the compassion you showed me. The receptionist and Claudia Benjamin are extremely nice and very understanding. I am due to go back and see her for a checkup 6 months after the work has been completed. For the first time ever, I have every confidence that this dentist will help me overcome my phobia.
