The Story:

I had a root canal on a tooth that had healthy roots, but the decay was close to the root. Before the procedure, I had no pain issues, but since then, I've started to experience mild pain. I'm not sure if the pain is directly from the root canal or something else — the timing just seems to line up.

I visited my regular dentist, who checked the tooth with the root canal and said it looks fine. He suggested that I might be grinding my teeth at night and made me a night guard, but it hasn’t helped.

I then saw another dentist, who thought my symptoms might be caused by my wisdom teeth. She wasn’t certain and referred me to a specialist.

When I visited the wisdom teeth specialist, he confidently said my symptoms are due to the wisdom teeth and recommended removal, though he mentioned there are some risks.

Current Symptoms:

At first, the pain came only once every few days or after weeks without any pain. Now, the pain is more regular (although still mild). There’s also a slight burning sensation, maybe a possible mild infection(also mild). In the last few weeks, I’ve started noticing a sour taste in my mouth.

Request for Advice:

Both general dentists I visited didn’t provide much specific information—mostly guesses about what could be causing the issue. The wisdom teeth specialist recommends surgery, but I feel anxious about going through with it.

Do you have any suggestions for me? Should I go ahead with the wisdom teeth removal, or is it worth seeking more opinions? Which type of specialist would be best to consult at this point? I’d really appreciate any advice or shared experiences!

Thank you so much.
