I don't even know what to say or ask at this point. To make a long story short:
1. End of March I started getting jaw pain and tooth pain.
2. Went to the dentist for the first time in 13 years.
3. They told me I had a bad cavity in my upper right wisdom tooth and also in one of my right upper molars. Suggested taking out the wisdom tooth and filling the molar.
4. April 4, got the wisdom tooth out.
5. Hunky dory for about week. Pain started to come back strong on the right side.
6. Went back to the dentist about that right side tooth and were told they did a "limited" exam and only looked at the right side. Did a full exam. Found a second wisdom tooth (upper left) bad and also recommend possible root canal for the upper right molar.
7. Saw specialist, he thought it could be filled.
8. Went in for a cleaning and filling in May. Horrible pain afterward. Went back, they said root canal or extraction.
9. Got upper left wisdom tooth and upper right molar extracted May 29.
10. Went back a week later for a followup and noted that I had this weird sharp protrusion above where the upper right molar came out. Doctor told me it was bone and it SHOULD settle, but if it doesn't, come back and they can "fix" it (I don't even know what this means).
11. Pain diminished and the sharp spot got better but was still sort of an annoyance. I figured it might take a few months to go away.
And so here we are...
Yesterday, I started having pain on the right side of my mouth again. It feels very much like the pain from the bad filling, even though that tooth is long gone. It feels like someone punched me in the side of the mouth. I don't know if I should wait it out, go back to my regular dentist (Aspen, who has a dentist that I really DO NOT like very much), or go see the surgeon to have him look at that bony spot and see if that could be causing the pain.
My big fear is that they missed a cavity in the remaining upper right molar. In this case, the tooth was BETWEEN the two that were removed and I'm wondering if it, too, had a cavity that was missed? COULD everyone miss it? I had the area X-rayed twice. Once by Aspen and once by the oral surgeon's office. Is it possible that there was ANOTHER nasty cavity there and that's now pressing into the nerve and I have to have yet ANOTHER tooth extracted (let me tell you, I cannot afford this...I've spent over $1000 so far and it's NOT money I have to throw around).
I'm just very frustrated that things keep seeming to get MISSED (how do you send someone to an oral surgeon and NOT do a full exam? And don't even TELL them you didn't do one?). And now I might end up with yet another tooth gone. I mean, it's almost useless anyway as I can't chew much on that side of my mouth with the other teeth gone. And they're not visible as they're far enough back in my mouth to not be seen. But I just don't even know which way to turn or what this could be and I'm TIRED of it. I've lost over $1000 I don't have to spend and have missed a total of 5-6 days of work for this.
Help? Any suggestions? I put off going to the dentist for 13 years because of my fear and now this is just really not helping. I'm tired of being in pain. I'm tired of thinking it's over and I can go on with my life, only to have pain again. I'm sick of downing Ibuprofen like it's candy!
