I had severe mouth pain for months, and finally had a root planing and scaling done three weeks ago due to periodontitis. The pain has lessened considerably but is still there. My dentist has suggested a night guard for nighttime grinding, which I will have made next week. She also said I could see a an orofacial specialist. I have no pain in my jaw, neck, ears, face, etc. and only occasional headaches. Does it seem like I need to see an orofacial specialist?

I don't see how I can answer that for you :-)
A few questions you might ask yourself...
Is your pain bad enough to negatively affect your day to day life? Are you able to afford the costs? is there an OFP specialist near you? It's a relatively new speciality so not many around.
