I have a discoloured composite front filling. Many years ago my filling came out and I went to a random dentist nearby my house to get it patched up, and the dentist did a lousy job. There is an obvious margin between my filling and tooth.
I went to my regular dentist recently and asked him if he could change the filling or could it be decay under the filling. He is a very conservative man and doesn't do any cosmetic dentistry and he said it was fine and maybe the other dentist left blood inside the filling and caused staining, but to remove it would cause the hole to get larger and larger(it's a large filling already), possibly needing a root canal. He told me the filling was still sturdy, and he would only change it if it hurt or was leaking.
I am thinking of going to another dentist, but I don't know what to do. Perhaps I can consider doing composite bonding instead of changing the filling? I would like to ask here first before consulting a dentist and being charged for consultation fees.
Here is a picture of my front tooth. Sorry for it looking gross, my teeth are crooked and the incisor next to it has been dead for 6 years (never realised still last year!) and I am still saving up for a root canal.
Thank you all so much for your help.
