I am getting 2 wisdom teeth taken out this week due to an infection in my gums around them. I chose just to do local anesthetic. I have a fear of being put under. I am nervous about my mouth being numb and being able to swallow. Never had dental work done before so I do not know what to expect. Very nervous. Please help me ease my mind on the procedure. Thanks

Hi Dg1296, wisdoms with local is fine, I had all 4 out that way and it only took about 5 minutes. The longest part is to wait for the numbing to take effect. It's normal that you are nervous, especially when you never had any dental work done before. The numbing feels weird, but it's ok. I try to focus on my feet during a procedure to keep distracted and in this way I do not notice much of the numbness. Numbing has no effect on swallowing so do not worry about that one. I can only encourage you to talk to your dentist about what worries you.
All the best wishes and let us know how you are doing:)

Your wisdom teeth removal depends on how it grew in. Some are surgically remove because they're impacted or buried deep under. Some are regular extractions. Everyone is unique.

My are both in but only about half way to a third. Oral surgeon said should only take 15 minutes for both. But still so scared

Mine had been just a bit out too back then and it went so quickly that I didn't even realized we were done. You know, the anxiety before a procedure really is the worst part. Hope you can find a way to distract yourself a little bit before your appointment.

Do you already have a good plan about how to treat yourself afterwards? :)
