5 root canals at 27 and TERRIFIED.

My dentist has been replacing my old (cracked or decayed) amalgam fillings over the past few weeks. Unfortunately I've gotten the news that 5 (!!) of the teeth aren't restorable without a root canal because the tooth has gotten so bad. Thing is, I've never had a single root canal before, let alone 5. 2 risk extraction. Can anyone put me at ease that I haven't messed up my teeth FOREVER because it feels like I have.

Depends. Have you made lots of changes to your diet as a result of this?

If you have, then no, you haven't messed up your teeth forever. Modern restorative materials and techniques are very good and can last pretty well indefinitely if they're maintained by the patient.
