I posted here back in December about wanting to get my teeth fixed. I've spent pretty much all day agonizing over whether or not to go ahead and do this, but I finally made an appointment with an orthodontist.

I'm terrified! I don't like the idea of going. Every single terrible possibility is running through my mind. Will she say it's untreatable? Will she say that I require jaw surgery? Will I have to keep the braces on for several, unendurable years?

Even worse, I know that I'll finally have to go back to the dentist. After two years, I'm scared of how many cavities they'll find. I also know that I'll have to get my wisdom teeth pulled eventually. That's what terrifies me the most. I keep thinking that I'll have a nightmare scenario--with nerve damage, terrible pain, and all that. I'll also have to get extractions in order to get the braces, and the scares me too.

Can anyone lend a little support before my appointment tomorrow? I could really use it. *:'(

My mind keeps running to the whole wisdom tooth scenario. I'm terrified that they'll tell me that I have to get them taken out. Does anyone on here know the odds of nerve damage and other complications with wisdom tooth removal? One is fully erupted (though it's a bit lower than my other teeth), and the other is partially erupted. Does this make the extraction easier or more difficult?

I don't know if you have left for your app yet but if you haven't good luck. You will most likely find that the dentist will do a chart of your teeth and have a look around. Maybe take an x ray or two.
Explain your fears to the dentist.

Hope it goes well for you I'm sure it will. I look forward to hearing how your went on this evening.
All the best.

Just as scared as you today for my first visit in 15 years...same as you need braces ...wisdom teeth out and all. Sounds like I could have written your post. Well today finally came to have a look an I had my right upper wisdom tooth had errupted an was taken over by a hugh cavity an was in bad ahape with infection. Well not sure how but I had him pull it out about an hour ago. An it went really smooth . You too will be ok I just now know that talking to them has to be the biggest help. For your mindstate an they know how worried you are. So if iam late for your apointment aupport but I hope today went well for you as well I just keep thinking about the little victories first you will be great dont get wrapped up too far in the future like me......on second thought I need to take my own advise lol

Thanks for your support! The consultation went well. I could not have found a better orthodontist. I was terrified as I walked in, but she was so friendly that all that left.

My teeth will take at least 18 months to fix. I have to get two (possibly three) extractions, which kind of worry me a little, but the orthodontist said that it's nothing. I have two baby teeth, and she said that those will come out like nothing. I might have to have one lower tooth removed, which she said will be nothing.

I'm actually glad I went. Due to the misalignment of my teeth, I've experienced some bone damage, which would have gotten worse over time. I also would've been in danger of losing all my teeth.

I'll probably wind up posting on here again once the time for my extractions draw nearer and I start freaking out again. For now, I'm happy. ;D
