I was suppose to have this abccessed tooth out tuesday.. I called and cancelled.. I was afraid something bad would happen.. I hate this phobia normal people would go and have it pulled and carry on with life.. Not me .. So Im still sitting here with anxiety over this tooth with a headache as well and of course im thinking its a brain abccess now.. this is hell.. scared to go get it pulled and scared Im going to die with the tooth..

Hi Unluckyshelly don't beat yourself up about this, think of it this way Tuesday was just the wrong day for you. I once not so long ago was supposed to go for an abscessed tooth out that had broken as well. When the day came I went and I could hardly walk and I knew my face was looking all red and puffy, it felt like my head was going to explode with the fear, everything hurt including my eyes. I ended up not having it done that day, the dentist gave me some more antibiotics and made another appointment for the following week.

By the week after I was still scared but I managed to have it done, it was not worth all the panic and stress I had done to myself. I was convinced that I was going to get blood poisoning or something, it didn't happen. I answered your other thread so you know the story.

Please contact your dentist and get some more antibiotics and re-arrange the appointment, if you feel you cannot have the tooth pulled just with numbing, ask them to prescribe you something to take before the appointment to help calm you down, they can you know.

Could you write to the dentist or ring up and explain how afraid you are and why and see what they say when they get back to you. They will be able to help you get this done.

Best wishes :butterfly: let us know how you get on . We can give you as much support as you want. By the way you are normal, just scared.

Not too long ago (in april ) i had to get a molar pulled and I just about lost my mind over it for 3 weeks until the appt day. I took 2 Xanax before the appt and Nitrous during the appt and itcwas over in 4 minutes and totally not worth all the agony I put myself though. And it didn't hurt! Hand on my heart, it's not nearly as bad as you think it is. You will be amazed!

Hi Unluckyshelly, nothing bad is going to happen. So far I've had 6 teeth pulled and I'm probably gonna need 4 more taken out as well. Everything is gonna be fine, the worst part is sitting in the chair waiting for the numbing to work. But for my tooth extractions I had laughing gas/nitrous oxide and it really helped. Have you asked your dentist for it? I couldn't believe it when my dentist said they were done. It's always never as worse as we imagine it to be and even though I've experienced what's going to happen and I know what's going to happen I can't help but feeling scared, I guess that's how it is with phobics. The tooth extraction itself only takes about 5 minutes, you'll be out of there in a jiffy. I hope everything goes well for you and :clover::clover::clover::clover::clover::clover::clover::clover::clover:.

Hey everyone thank you.. My problem sits in with this.. The dentist I use is great , she takes her time with the shots bc of a serious reaction I had from one dentist in the past.. My huge dental phobia started when I had one shot and my vision went double and my blood pressure dropped and this stayed this way for 30 min and now Im petrifed now of the shots..

ok moving forward.. The oral surgeon that is to be taking out my two teeth is really good very very good , but he lacks patience and compassion to people like me.. He is the type to numb you , pull the tooth and out the door he goes ..

Lasttime when he gave me the shot and I asked him if he could just give me a little and see how i react since of my bad reaction in the past and to please go slow with me with the shots until i was numb he looked at me and says are you crazy? while tears are streaming down my face..
after ten min he says to me young lady you are wasting my time if you dont let me get in there to do my job you are going to need to come back.. welll this hurt my feelings.. now i feel ashamed and scared to go back to him and he is the only oral surgeon here.. so this is my dilemma:shame:

I see; why can't your dentist take out the tooth, I am sorry if you said in your other thread but I have forgotten. I don't think you have been stupid at all. You have a very valid reason for being afraid of the meds in the injection. I think this man needs a swift kick up the yazoo. HOW RUDE WAS HE TO YOU.
Could you write to someone about it, is there no one else that can do this for you. He needs to be a bit more understanding and a lot more pleasant. Was there a nurse there that you could talk to about this.

I would have been as scared as you, and I would probably have walked as well after being spoken to like that, what did he think you were going to do, all of a sudden feel better and just be able to let him get on with it.
I think it was a reasonable request from you that he let you see how you were going to react to the meds. He should have understood your fear, it must be on your record. I think anyone would want to be sure things were okay before proceeding. It is dangerous when blood pressure falls so low so he should have shown more concern.

I am sorry you had this experience, could your dentist help you. :butterfly:

Shelly,

An oral surgeon pulled my tooth too and that is exactly how he was. In and out. But then again, I didn't want to hang around there any longer than necessary so it was fine with me! You WANT an oral surgeon to pull the tooth because that is what they do all day long, they're good at it, and they won't run into any problems. Ask for a Xanax (or similar anti anxiety med) to help get you to your appointment and in the chair, and ask for niterous gas to help you stay in the chair. That stuff had me half asleep and seriously, as they were talking to me (and trying to tell me my tooth was out) I was almost annoyed because I was so busy being relaxed! True story. I think I sat in the chair 15 minutes with the shots and waiting to get numb and an additional 4 minutes from start to finish when he pulled the tooth. Then they put gauze in my cheek, gave me a few prescriptions and a piece of paper with home care instructions and I was out of there. I know it's easy for me to say this now, but please try not to prolong this and put yourself through too much agony--you will kick yourself later for it. It really isn't that big of a deal. You're going to be fine, I promise.

Hi unluckyshelly I just wanna say that you can do it I know how scared you must be but if you take someone with. You the next time you go it might help you Ive never had someone to go with me but if you can find the courage to you will feel so much better but don't rush it go at you're own pace

Hi
It sounds like this oral surgeon is not suitable for phobic patients. Surely you can find a dentist who can extract the tooth (not necessarily an oral surgeon) and capable treating patients with dental anxiety.
There are many dentists and dental surgeons. Don't compromise, you deserve to be treated well, physically and mentally.
All the best
