Hello. To quickly give clarity, extremely dental phobic due to accident as a child that resulted in bent out front teeth, that were then removed without any anesthesia, at age 6.

Fast forward to last week. I'm 33F. I got hit in the face with a metal kickstool at my work. It hurt a TON and my left front tooth was almost numb with the impact. Over the course of a week I noticed it hurt a fair bit and felt... Off... So I decided to get to my dentist ASAP, more for reassurance, as I was panicking the tooth was dying.

Well, I didn't get the reassurance I was hoping for - after an emergency check up and x-ray, my dentist informed me... The tooth is slightly loose. He clarified it as 'only 5-10% more loose than your teeth naturally are', but still loose. There was also a very faint crack in the x-ray at the bottom of the tooth, but he was unable to find it with a visual examination.

Dentists outlook is optimistic. He recommends rest and a soft diet, gentle hygiene, and don't poke and prod. Basically to keep an eye and give it a chance to tighten up. Monitor the pain levels and tooth health long term.

However.

I am TERRIFIED. Losing a tooth or loose teeth is literally my nightmare. I've cried and cried since leaving the dentist and I don't know what to do, what to expect, if the recovery won't work, how to not hyper focus on the pain and the looseness now that I know it's there...

I just was hoping to get some success stories or even long term advice from a dentist who's seen this happen before. There's so many questions I forgot to ask as well that I'm agonising over.

-Am I allowed to lift weights with a loose tooth?
-How long will this take to tighten, if it does?
If it doesn't, and the tooth is pulled, am I stuck with a gap in my toothline for weeks/forever if I can't afford to get it replaced?
-What kind of soft foods or liquid foods?
-How do I take care of the loose tooth? Do I stop brushing, flossing, do I rub it with my finger and toothpaste? Mouthwash?
-What if I clench in my sleep or something? Will that make it worse?
-How do I ignore the pain and hyper awareness of the slight wobbling?
-Will people judge me for missing a front tooth if It comes to that?

I'm just so scared and feel helpless and out of my depth. I don't want this. I would rather have spiders all around me than this and I'm an arachnophobic.

If anyone has anything that is good advice or be taken as comfort, I really need it.
