Have you had your first denture fitted in the past five years? Receive a 20 GBP voucher for participation in our study.

We are interested in hearing about the individual experiences of (UK based) people who are using dentures.

We would like to invite you to take part in a study looking at the effects of wearing dentures on everyday life. Topics that will be covered in the interview include your personal history of oral health, reactions to having a denture fitted, the impact of having a denture on your daily life, and any adaptation you may have made to wearing a denture.

This research will help to better understand the wide range of effects and responses associated with having teeth removed and then adapting to using a denture. The results will be used to create a new quality of life measure related to the experience of wearing dentures. It will also be used to help improve how we train future dentists in providing dentures.

Participation would involve a one-off interview with a member of the research team on your experiences that would last between 60-90 minutes (this may be longer or shorter at your discretion). Interviews will be arranged at a mutually suitable time and place (possibly online), and all data will be anonymised.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed, and everyone who attends an interview will be given a 20 GBP honorarium (Love to Shop vouchers) to thank them for their time.

Unfortunately, we are unable to recruit members of the dental profession, current or former dental students, or anyone working in a dental school.

The study is being organised by Professor Barry Gibson, who is Professor in Medical Sociology in the School of Clinical Dentistry. The study has received ethical approval from the University of Sheffield (Application 043367). This research is funded by GlaxoSmithKline.

Your participation would be greatly valued, and very much appreciated. We can conduct face to face interviews with anyone living in Yorkshire or the East Midlands, or online if you live outside this area (or if this is more convenient).

If you would like to take part in the study or receive more information, please first contact us on:

Thank you for your time.
