Hi All

when I awas at A&E recently the doctor said I need to get the dentist to check out the TMJ joint (or TJM). He said it was slightly out of place and it was certainly very tender but as I had sinusitis at the time I thought it was simply due to that. What is likely to happen if the TMJ join is out of place? thanks xx

What you doctor was most likely referring to is the disc in the joint. The treatment of TMD (tempromandibular disorder) varies and can be very complicated depending on the severity. It can range from no treatment at all, to a bite guard to move the disc into a more favorable position, to more drastic measures. Also, sometimes the pain from the muscles can be referred to the joint so all you may need are muscle relaxers.
