Hello All,
I finally got the courage to search my problem and im very happy to have found this website.
This will be the first time i actually write about what i have been going through.
My problems started in my early teens, my mom took me to the dentist and the experience was so horrible that i never went back! When i was about 17 my tooth started to chip between 11 and 12, plus all the fillings that were used on my teeth had started to come out, with the phobia that i have I completely ignored it until tooth # 12 fell out and left me with a huge gap on my left side. At this point i went to the dentist to see how i can fix this so i can smile again. I think it had been the dentists first case of bad teeth, he seemed confused and kept putting his hands on his head as if he couldnt believe what was in front of him. With all that we came up with a plan to get my teeth fixed.
During this time i did not have insurance and would have to pay everything out of pocket and i knew that it would take me a while but i got some money together and scheduled my first extraction. I went to a different clinic to get that procedure done, my dentist had given me a card listing all the extractions needed. When the receptionist saw that card she started talking to the person next to her about me how she couldnt believe that a young girl had such problems with her teeth. Even with that i still went through with the extraction and never went back to the dentist. In 2005 i gave birth to my daughter and felt like i was going to faint when i was asked to open my mouth before they used Epidural on me.
In 2006 i was having pain on tooth #13 and it was so bad that the left side of my face completely swelled up and i had to tell everyone that i was having an allergic reaction to seafood, even with that i still didnt go to the dentist and just took some antibiotics that i found.
My problem has gotten so bad that I feel trapped (my tongue is trapped), im scared to go to the doctor to get chekups because i know they will ask me to open my mouth and i can not do that, even toothpaste commercials scare me
i find my self changing the channels when a commercial comes on.
somehow i have managed to keep a good social life, the other day i was looking at party pics and everyone has a beautiful smile and i always have my mouth closed. I also have not been able to have a steady relationship because of my lack of self esteem.
Im so sorry for making this so long but i just have so much to say, I was reading other posts and i hope your encouraging words will help me make that first step towards freeedom!
Thanks
J
