I wonder if someone can help please? I’m worried because I’m going on holiday this week and if I have to see a dentist abroad I will freak out!!!
6 days ago I have 2 teeth extracted. Both upper ones. One of them is fine but I’m having a few problems with the other.

My dentist said the extraction took a bit of extra work as the tooth was difficult to get out. It was broken down to the gum line. Anyway, it seemed to go ok, the bleeding stopped and I have a visible blood clot. The only thing I’m noticing now is soreness and pressure in my gums above and to the left of my extraction site. I wouldn’t call it painful as such but it’s not comfortable.

The reason I am worried is the tooth to the left of the site has had partial root canal (one was blocked) feels strange (full feeling) when pressure is applied and when I bend down.

Could it be that the extraction has somehow disturbed the blocked root? I am really upset as I’m such a nervous patient and I wasn’t having any problems with the root of the other tooth before extraction.

I’m using salt rinses after meals, Corsodyl mouthwash twice a day.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
I will try and work out which tooth I have had removed if that’s helps, but counting from the front backwards it’s tooth number 5 that has been extracted. Tooth 4 is the one with the blocked root.

Thanks so much in advance.

No, the extraction can't have affected the blocked root canal. It's likely a bit of soft tissue trauma near the extraction site due to all the forces applied to get the root out.

Thank you Gordon, your advice is much appreciated. I went back to see my dentist yesterday and it appears that I didn’t have a blood clot after all. He has put a pack in and has started me on antibiotics. I’m just wondering about the pack now. My dentist said this would fall out in a few days (he didn’t ask me to go back before my holiday) or it would reabsorb? I’m unsure what this means?

Also how can my socket heal with a pack in?
I have to say my pain and discomfort have now subsided somewhat and I feel much better especially due to going on holiday.

Again, many thanks in advance ?

The packing is sort of an artificial blood clot, so what your dentist means is that your white blood cells will munch it and re-use it (resorb it) if it's still there when the socket starts to heal up, same as if it was a real clot.
