Hi.
I suffer from agraphobia and having treatment for it. Iv just started going out but only small trips. Iv got an appointment with a new dentist in April. How is the best way to deal with this. Do i talk to them first explain everything. Will they understand if on the first appointment i can only talk to them for 10 minutes. I feel ashamed of my situation and embarrassed and just dont know how to move forward with the dentist. Please any advise or should i just give up now? My teeth do need some attention as got painful receding gums etc.

Yes, start by phoning or e-mailing the practice and let them know, there's absolutely nothing to be ashamed about, you might benefit from a referral to a Community/PDS special care clinic rather than a regular dentist if you have one nearby.

Thank you. We dont have anything like that. But i will email the dentist to explain.. hooefully she will understand. I am going private as they may have more time.

Going privately sounds like a great idea. For sure they will take this very seriously. What a big step to start going out again, well done! You mentioned having treatment. Would it be an idea to ask the mental health professional who treats you to write a letter and explain whatever you would like the dentist to understand?

@Enarete i have contacted the dentist and see what they come back with. Hopefully they will be kind. Its a double wammy to get over but its a start. Thanks for the reply.
