Anesthesia wont have an affect

So the last time I went to the dentist was almost 20 years ago and I find myself having to go on my birthday this year. And since making the appointment I've had on average 3 panic attacks a day thinking about it.

Here in South Africa, laughing gas I not an option. Previously I have even gone as far as going under general anesthetic to have 3 fillings and an extraction done.

So part of my fear, besides the pain and the drill and everything else, is that the anesthetic won't work or have any affect on me. How likely is this to happen?

Local anaesthetics have come on a lot in the last 20 years. You'll be fine.
