Hey guys. So I finally got in to see my new dentist which will be next week! :) but its just for a check up(xrays and cleaning) but I always gag when they do xrays. Anyone know how to get over this?

Welcome! Good luck at your check up :)

When I have to do x-rays on the right-side in the back, I tend to gag. The lady who was helping me with the x-rays saw I was having a hard time and she said to wiggle my toes. So off I went and wiggled my toes and it did help a lot- took my mind off my mouth completely. Since then when something bothers me that's what I do.

You might not find it to be that bad! I was at the dentist for the first time in YEARS last week, and they had a new fancy x-ray machine that whirred around my head to quickly take a photo (my front teeth were in-between a small rod to bite).

Side x-rays were done with a small bit of film on a very tiny plastic wedge -- I have a small mouth, and didn't find it bad at all.

Best of luck! Just let the technician know it's an issue for you, remember it will be over in just a couple of minutes!

Thanks for your help guys!! :)
