Can someone please explain what is nitrous oxide?

The dentist emailed me back and said that the type of sedation he offers is nitrious oxide (I'm kind of sad because I read they offered IV as well)
I'm not familiar with nitrous but he said is $75 for every two hours, is it really that potent? is it like a mask with the gas and they put it over your face? they the the injections too right? I want to feel out of it and that I don't care that they are digging and drilling in there...Thank you

Nitrous is a pre-sedative. It is administered by having a small mask on your nose. You breathe a mixture of nitrous and oxygen. The mix can be varied according to the level of sedation desired. It takes a couple of minutes for it to kick in. You will feel relaxed and a bit floaty. It takes the edge off the anxiety. A local is still used for pain control.

When the procedure is done you will breathe pure oxygen and the nitrous effects will go away. For many people this is a great option and considerably less expensive than IV sedation.

I actually prefer nitrous and a bit of halcion over IV "twilight" sleep, it was less invasive and less expensive and worked just as well if not better for me. Maybe you can get a script for something to relax you before you get there Vita, if the dentist says its ok. Works great!!!. I've had lots done with just nitrous too, before hypnosis, it was the only way I would have dental work.

I have Xanax but all it does is to stop the panic attack and the crying but not the fear, I want something to relax me before I go to the appointment. The doctor emailed me back and told me that he can't prescribe benzodiazepines but that he offers nitrous.
I don't know what to do because he said he could prescribe something for before the appointment but don't know what is it since valium for example is a benzodiazepine.

Specifically and technically vita, nitrous is a combination of two atoms of Nitrogen, and 1 Atom of Oxygen. Known as N2O or more commonly known as Nitrous Oxide. (similar to you know how H2O is. but instead of Hydrogen, it's Nitrogen.)

It's used for a variety of things, amusingly including racing. (ever heard the term NOS? same stuff.) I imagine the kind used for medical purposes such as what is at the dentist office is much higher grade and purity.
