I had a root canal done in November 2025 after an infection (see previous posts), the lump has went away but I've been checking my gum over the last week or so and I've noticed that when the light is on it, the gum appears a bit dark where the lump used to be, and theres also a dark circle (cant see it well in the photo). I can't feel a phyical lump, but I think maybe the circle is very slightly raised, but I honestly cant tell and it may be my mind playing tricks on me.

I've not got any symptoms but I am terrified it means the infection is coming back, can anybody offer any advise? How does it look?

Don't think it's a problem, but the only way to check for sure is to re-x-ray the area and see if there's signs of healing on the radiograph.
Mention it at your next routine check up and ask them to take a look.

Thanks Gordon. My next check up isn’t until November as I had one a couple months ago. The last time I was in the dentist was early December, to get my crown, and the dentist didn’t mention anything about it.

Does it just look like normal healing to you?

It doesn't look anything to worry over. Could be some mild trauma from eating something sharp or a new toothbrush or similar.

Thanks Gordon, but I just want to clarify, the area is EXACTLY where my lump was from my root canal. I've attached a photo of what it looked like on the 18th of November. Does the way it looks now look like its healing correctly in your opnion?

Sorry, I am just absolutely terrified the infection comes back, because I don't want to lose the tooth!

Thanks!!

It looks much healthier now than it did in November, if that helps any?

@Gordon It does, thank you!

Sorry for being annoying, it just absolutely terrifies me at the thought of the infection coming back and needing another root canal/extraction, just hoping to be done with this tooth for now!

You're not being annoying, it's a natural reaction to having gone through a lot to sort the tooth out.
