Decayed upper Cuspid (eye tooth) terrified to make appointment with oral surgeon

I'm new to this site so, I'm hoping my post will show where it should....
Last month a piece of tooth (eye tooth) broke off in the back leaving a small hole, wasn't too worry, just bought some temp filling and hoped to postpone dentist appt. but last week the tooth broke again, and about 1/8 of the front is gone leaving a space. Finally went to the dentist who told me the tooth was decayed way up at the root and I needed to see an oral surgeon. Gave me only two option: root canal or extraction, I will not consider a root canal but also terrified that the tooth will brake during extraction. I can't sleep or eat I'm frozen with fear. Has any one had similar problem? What happens if the tooth breaks? I saw a video where a drill is used to remove broken roots the thought alone makes me panic ,all the noise, the water, fragments flying everywhere.
Please help. Thank you

I just went to the oral surgeon for the same reason but multiple teeth. They will put u out with sedation. That's what I choose and will have it done in2 weeks. He said it will be a piece of cake that it is much easier to remove decayed teeth then intact teeth he assured me there is nothing to worry about. I was scared to death to go it took me years to go which I regret. :) it will all be fine no worries :)

Hello and welcome.

I have had a tooth break at the gumline, for me it was removed by a dentist painlessly, she was able to fish all the roots out (this was a lower molar so had several roots); the whole thing took 10 minutes tops, was totally pain free and involved no drilling (best not to google or look on YouTube as that is normally worst case scenarios).

Hope all goes well for you.

kind regards

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement... I realize my fear is irrational. I have had 8 teeth pulled in the past, including 4 wisdom two at the same time at 8 mo. pregnant.. didn't feel a thing during or after. I also don't believe in pain meds or any "mood altering"drugs. I guess what triggered my fear , is the word "Surgeon", right away I worried about my high blood pressure and mitral valve regurgitation .
I'm" projecting" .... even worrying about damage to the sinuses...I don't like not to be in control , at the same time I don't think I could do it w/o sedation. ..Again, Thank you so much

Depending on your bite and other teeth I would strongly consider a root canal for a canine.
