I'm not exactly sure if this post belongs here please move if I'm in the wrong place :)

This is probably UK specific and I started thinking about it when my quotes kept changing. Why is it so hard to get price quotes from private dentists? I can understand treatment varies per individual and in those cases they would need to see you.

But take standard things like mine full mouth clearance and dentures and lower implants to hold the dentures. All seems fairly standard why is it not possible to give a guide price for these?

Why do they all insist on a consultation (which incidentally comes out at around £100 plus x-rays) before they will even comment on a guide price? Especially in regard to dentures. Of course a guide price is just that it may vary but this practise of hiding pricing makes it impossible to shop around. And I think considering we're talking thousands of pounds as consumers we should have the right to shop around for something like dentures the same as any other item without it costing hundreds of pounds to do so.

I cant afford private treatment but after reading your post i completely agree with you, Can you sometimes get free consultations though? You dont have to pay hundreds of pounds to look at a car before you can see it and know the price do you, why is this the case for dentistry, every mouth is different but there should be an average estimate, it isnt fair really is it.
