Hey people, it’s been a while…
I was due for a hygienist appointment in January which I had to call and cancel….I was falling asleep all that week at work. I thought I’d picked up a bug, but…it was the old depression rearing its ugly head again.
I’ve been put back on a higher dose of my Sertraline, and it seems to be doing the trick mood wise. But, this time I had bad heartburn/reflux from the Sertraline - doc says it’s not uncommon - and I’m now also on Lansoprazole for that. Seems to be working, thankfully.
So, the dental bit…Last exam, six months ago, my dentist checked on the bottom left back tooth where she’d seen some apparent bone resorption on X-ray. She said that if I had any issues with it, she’d take a look and in the first instance, if there might be a bit of infection down in the gap, she’d give me antibiotics. It wasn’t doing anything at the time.
Well, last couple of weeks it HAS been twingey. Not unbearable, but annoying. (I’ve also had twinges in the top teeth at the back on that side. I know one of them has deep gum pockets, so is very sensitive anyway.). I’ve also had TMJ issues (I wear a mouth guard at night). Fun! (I should say that even when I was at my lowest, I was still managing to drag myself to the bathroom, use the interdentals and brush twice a day.)
So, anyway….now that my mood is on an upward path, I thought I’d take the bull by the horns and try and get in to see my dentist. I’m booked for next Wednesday. I was supposed to have a checkup in March anyway, but I was told I ought to make a separate appointment for this.
Thing is…if there is something going on with this tooth, will she be able to give me something that doesn’t interact with what I’m already on? I know the Sertraline isn’t an issue, but I wonder about the Lansoprazole. I figure the dentist will know what antibiotics work with those and which don’t, right?
(I especially do NOT want to be put on Metronidazole. I had that antibiotic for a dental infection years ago, was booked to go on vacation while I was on it,and was SO queasy I couldn’t eat anything much for the first week. I’ve had enough digestive issues already, thanks. Do they even still use that one?)
