Hi Cutxpaste and  [smiley=welcome.gif]!

You write very well for English not being your first language.  :)  (I took 2 years of French and can only say hello and ask for someone's name!  :P)

I'm sorry that you are so frightened right now but you aren't alone in feeling that way.  It's not ridiculous at all, everyone deals with a fear of something and it just so happens that a very large population is afraid of dentists.  Don't be ashamed or embarrassed about it, instead be proud of yourself for going to the dentist and sticking through getting your treatment in spite of your fear.   [smiley=jumping.gif]  That's a huge accomplishment and there are many people who like to be at the point you are now.  Lucky for you the dentist sounds as though he is kind and caring so I'm sure he'll be the same way when you get your fillings.

If you've read some of the posts here you will see that almost everyone is surprised at how easy and pain free getting a filling is.  Perhaps talk to your dentist and ask him if you can give him a signal (raise your hand or finger) if you feel any kind of discomfort.  That way you are in control and he can be sure that you are completely numb before continuing.  Also, consider taking a radio/ipod so that you can listen to music to drown out any noises.

I was worried about getting my first cleaning after a very long time of avoiding the dentist and it was easy and pain free.  I listen to my music and before I know it she is done.  I'm sure you will have no problems but if you find that you are uncomfortable ask them for the numbing cream to put on your gums.

I'll be sending positive thoughts your way tomorrow. You'll be just fine and hopefully will come back and share your story with us.

[smiley=grouphug.gif] Hi there Cutxpaste..

You are "only 21"... I"m nearly 40 and feel the same as you .. I"m not saying that you will feel this way forever, but I *am* saying that even "old folks: :P have the same fears. It isn't ridiculous, not at all.

All of what takingflight said above is true - She never knew how much I leaned on her words of wisdom earlier this year while going thru MY own fears [smiley=hug.gif] (thanks Pam) - but it helped me sooooooo very much.

The biggest thing is to find a dentist that understands/empathises with your fears = not one that is nonchalant about it (and there are some out there = one of the dentists in the practice where I go is keenly aware of my fears, and other peoples fears. While he is a WONDERFUL wonderful dentist, he cannot handle a fearful patient = he will only do exams, xrays and discussions of needed work. He defers all anxious patients to the other doctors on staff.. That's a GOOD thing, IMO, because it means he cares..

You *will* absolutely be fine - My first visit after nearly 15 YEARS made my bloodpressure and pulse nearly double. That was in January.. Two weeks ago - just my pulse was a little bit fast, but once things started, it went to normal = and I only had two procedures - one in January, one two weeks ago..

Sedation, if available to you, is a wonderful thing and worth it to use.
