Hello,
I am scheduled to have four wisdom teeth removed tomorrow morning at 8am, I will go under general anathestic for this. I met this week with the doctor who will administer the general anathestic and he told me that I must drink about 200mls of fruit juice at 630am (surgery is at 830am).

I find this very strange since normally I should fast since midnight the night before surgery.
Can anyone give me their opinion on this, should I just not drink it?
Thanks

Will it be okay if I just don't drink anything and fast? Why would he recommend this?

Not sure but I found this article: [broken link removed]

Ring him and ask to clarify!!

Thanks for your article.

I rang him (twice!) The first time he said that this is a 'new' method since a year. That it helps to reduce the risk of nausea before, during, and after the operation and that I must drink a glass (150-250ml) of fruit juice before the operation, and said it was a prescription. I called him again today but only spoke with his secretary who said that there are some doctors that believe you can drink some juice before the operation (if you are thirsty) and others not. But he clearly told me that I must drink it.
I am in France by the way. This is really stressing me out.

That's sort of what it said in the article as well - that you shouldn't drink anything within 2 hours of the GA, but that it can help to reduce nausea and feeling weak post-surgery. If this is the case, I'm all for it of course... (I could never understand how one could possibly go without anything to drink first thing in the morning, lol)
