Exposed nerve cap and filling

I just had about an hour ago a filling done on my front canine, the nerve was exposed after all the decay and the dentist said that I may need a root canal done. Now the needle is wearing off and i'm in quite bad pain, it's not constant but it's every few minutes a sharp sting where the nerve is.

Should I leave it for a day or so and see if the pain goes or go back to a dentist ASAP? I have no idea if it's normal.

If it's getting worse then don't wait. If it's bearable and improving then leave it a bit longer.

Hi Gordon,

It's better now that i've slept, it was bad about midnight so I popped 2 more asprin and slept now it's fine! PHEW no Root Canal for me.

One more Q, it's quite sensitive to hot and cold food, is this normal?
