Ok I have to have my bottom left side #2 molar extracted very soon. I have a dentist appt tomorrow 1/17 @ 1 to get a referral to an oral surgeon in his office & to see if the tooth has an infection. They said if there is an infection he will prescribe an antibiotic til I can see the oral surgeon. Once I see her the 1st appt is just a consultation & the 1st opening they have is at least Jan 28. Then I have to schedule an extraction appt, why do they make us wait so long, my nerves are a wreck & get worse knowing I have to wait so long? My questions are, is a bottom molar hard to extract? It has a huge hole in it so pretty much just the outside shell is left. Please help!!!:scared::dunno::cry:

I was in a simular situation u were in 10 years ago with a lower molar. If done right the extraction wont hurt but u will feel pressure and naturally you think with pressure your going to feel pain but i can honestly say i never felt any pain durring it and the surgen said he had to section the tooth which means he had to cut it into pieces to get it out. Sounds horrific i know but it wasnt as bad as your mind makes it out to be. Believe me im an expert when it comes to imagining the worse and assuming its going to happen but the reality is it mostly likely wont.

What will happen is youll get the tooth extracted and naturally your going to feel a bit sore for a few days. This is totally normal. Dont suck on anything brush gently rinse with salt water when instructed to and a blood clot will form and you'll be on your road to recovery.

Also look on the bright side. Once that tooth is out it can NEVER ache or give u problems again. Sure the gum might ache here and there and if you loose too many teeth it can affect your health but from someone with experence is loosing 2 permerent molars (one upper and one lower) its not as bad as your mind makes it out to be. Naturally if you can i recomend saving the teeth if at all possable because once its gone there really is no going back outside of an implant or a bridge or what have you and nothing beats your natural teeth but if its not at all possable then its not as bad as your mind makes it out to be

Think of it like this. You lost all your baby teeth and still survied right? Its not too drasticly diffrent in a way. Your body knows how to repair and recover espically in your mouth. You should be just fine.

I know it still doesnt help quell the anxitity and nerverousness you must be feeling but from my experence its the truth.

Wish you the best of luck

Disclaimer: I can't answer your question because I've never experienced it before.

I just wanted to reply to let you know that you're not alone in all of this, if that helps at all. I'm actually going through something very similar except instead of a hole, half of my molar broke off. So I'm getting it extracted tomorrow. It always comforts me to know I'm not alone so I hope you feel the same.

Also, sorry to ask a question on your threat, but I feel like you might know a bit about it. I waited a really long time to go to the dentist so now, I have an infection in my sinus. The oral surgeon said that I could either get the tooth extracted or also treat the infection (which is not covered by insurance and is an extra $495.) Anyway, since you have antibiotics and stuff, do you know if I can just treat the sinus infection through antibiotics instead of a bone graft?

Sorry for the question and good luck!

you'l both be fine!

in oct i had my lower back tooth out, it had a large filling and a quarter of tooth came out and never had any pain what so ever for many, many months. anyway, they gave me antibiotics for a few days just in case theres any infection, but i ended up waiting 6 weeks for an appointment for it to be pulled, not too bad as it gave me long enough to get used to it! i had 3 injections (i think you have to with a lower back tooth?)and all you feel is pressure, my dentist drilled my tooth in half and then it was out within 10 minutes, seriously it goes really quick, you really will be ok, in total (so far) i've had 3 teeth out and all were out within minutes and were no bother,if you're really nervous you could always ask your doctor for a couple of valium and it will not affect the anaesthetic. hope you get on well.

hello,
re extractions it probably takes longer to make sure you are numb ( numbing gel too it's really good before the injections too) the actual removal is fairly quick and if you were ( doubtful) to feel anything other than pressure, as they persuade the tooth to release it's vacuum on your gum, just raise your hand, grunt or squeak or make a noise and they can make sure you are fully numbed up. I had a broken back upper removed in seconds and 5 lower back removed in one go it really was easy and pain free and the healing was trouble free just a few paracetamol and ibuprofen was all I needed for a couple of days for multiple extractions, there will be a bit of pressure like pushing your hand against your temple and maybe the odd creak or crunchy noise but nothing music in your ears won't solve if you are nervous of that sort of thing, the wait til the appointment is the most torturous as our brains work us into a state! I am treatment phobic and had 17 teeth out last year with just local and would have minimal problems if my remaining should have to be removed based on my last years experience, dentistry is pain free nowadays, you are in charge and your rights observed, I wish you well for your coming treatment, follow the aftercare, be kind to yourself
