So before we go any further just know my history. I’ve been suffering with mental problems for 25 years and have struggled to leave me house. I’m now diagnosed with autism and have worked up to being able to travel around locally. One of the down sides of all this has been my dental health as I have been unable to go to a dentist for a long time.

So I have an upper right molar that has a failed root canal in it. It’s currently got an abscess and causing me so much pain I can barely eat and sleep. I went to my dentist just 12 hours ago and was given a course of antibiotics to clear it up. This is my 7th course of antibiotics to treat an infection as it’s been 5 years that I haven’t been able to get courage for an extraction.

When I was at the dentist he did offer to take it out. I was almost about to say yes but I had a hour long wait before my appointment so the fear took over and I declined. I’m now sat here at midnight not being able to sleep still and the pain getting worse. It normally takes 3 days for the antibiotics to ease the pain so I still have a long way to go.

Part of me wants to phone up as my dentist opens in the morning and just go try get it taken out. My dentist has told me that while it’s infected it’s already loose so it will come out even easier than normal. I really wish I had the courage to face my fears as I know if I did go get the tooth removed it would be over so quick and the pain relief would be instant.

I came here looking for any words of advice and encouragement. Please help.

@Fynaticx I wish I could help but I am the same the fear of my tooth being taken out is bad and I don’t know how to do it

I recommend sedation. It costs, but for me it was worth it. I have had 2 extractions by 2 different dentists this year and was completely unaware of the whole procedure on both occasions. With the second one I remember saying 'have you got it out yet?' as I woke up. The dentist told me she'd pulled it out an hour earlier and had been doing other work.

@feelingbetter hello . I believe sedation will be the only option available for me but I’m worried about it . Do you feel anything? Is it a fast process? Any side affects ?
