I hadn't been to the dentist in over 10 years (a mistake I'll never make again) but one day I was in the worst pain of my life . I've had numerous surgeries on various parts of my body but no pain was like the one I was feeling that day. It was a nerve dying and there is nothing worse.
I went to the dentist and he told me a root canal was necessary but I had to be referred to a specialiast. THANK GOD! My endodontist was WONDERFUL! The dental assistants, AMAZING. I was so nervous I was shaking I only had a local and was in no pain during the procedure. I only felt a lot of pressure on my jaw. The tooth he was working on was abnormaly long (#20), so he had to go pretty far down. Sedation, not necessary.
If I ever need another root canal I will be go to him again. I've told all my friends and co-workers about him. I will not let a general dentist do the procedure, not after the amazing experience I had. We begain at 9:00, I was walking out the door at 9:30. He even did a filling in the same tooth. After the numbness was gone, I was able to eat and I wasn't in any pain. I was slightly sore (different from pain) from the pressure on my jaw, but I don't remember ever being in a better mood.
As long as you find the right endodontist (have your dentist recommend one since most only like take you as a referral), you will be fine.
If anyone is in the Tamarac, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs Florida area Dr. Neil Baker is your guy for root canals.
