Having to start over again, trust issues and fear

I’ve gone through phases of never seeing the dentist, getting everything fixed and then losing the dentist and having to start all over again

Severe trauma and dental anxiety since childhood. I had a great trauma informed dentist who retired in 2016. Then the next dentist took over his practice. He was nice but seems like he made a bunch of mistakes in my teeth. He put all these Cerec crowns and caps and they are breaking. I’m sad to say that he committed suicide suddenly and I wondered if it was related to things going wrong with his patients. I had soreness under these crowns and caps for months and months and he kept saying it was nothing

I’m terrified to go. I can’t afford implants and don’t even know if I’d want them. I have two broken molars again and I’m already missing two of my molars from previous dental issues

I’m seeing a new dentist next Wednesday and already quite terrified

Hi @zombiegroupie, so sorry to hear that your last dentist didn't live up to expectations, and that you've had so much trouble with his work. That really sucks .

Fair play to you for making an appointment despite being terrified. Fingers crossed that the new dentist will be a lot better, and trauma informed to boot. Of course, if for some reason they are not quite right for you, there's no shame in shopping around for the perfect (or near-perfect) fit!

Yes it’s next week. I really need to make myself get in there and find out what can be done for my teeth. But I’m very worried about all of it. I no longer have a “good side” for chewing and it’s upsetting

Ugh, not having a good side for chewing must be pretty draining . I hope the new dentist turns out to be a good match, and that they'll be able to get you out of pain and eating normally again soon . Hopefully the fix won't be too difficult, fingers crossed xx! It must be nerve-wrecking though not knowing what is actually wrong and how it can be put right. Please let us know how you get on!

(p.s. Don't quote me on this, but I think some years back, dentists were using emax material for molars with CEREC, whereas nowadays tney'd use zirconia which is a much more robust material for teeth that are exposed to chewing forces.)

Yes these were when Cerec crowns were really new. I really liked the idea and process of them but unfortunately most of them have failed
