How fast does decay spread?

I have a large amalgam filling with decay underneath. The decay has grown in the last two years but is on the edge and bottom of the filling and not too close to the root. The tooth is asymptomatic. Is this an urgent repair and crown as I have other issues.

I am not a dentist, but i have severe OCD over dental issues, and ive learned more then i should in that time. My advice is, the decay isnt going to strike overnight, but i would suggest getting the issue taken care of promply. Decay is slow getting through enamel, but once it gets through the enamel and into the dentine it can spread relatively quickly.

The Amalgam filling is somewhat anti bacterial and it will slow it, but once decay is there and espically past the enamel, it needs to be taken care of as your body can heal small tiny cavaties and white spots, but once the decay is past the tooths "Shields" as it were, you need to get it sorted out before it hits the nerve.

i wouldent put it off too long
