Infection two months after extraction

Hi there
I posted a while before about a white spot appearing on my gum about a month after my bottom front tooth was extracted. I saw a (really unpleasant) emergency dentist who told me it was just a bone spicule and the discomfort I was feeling was just normal healing sensations as the bone grows back.

However, last week, the area suddenly got sensitive to cold. I managed to see my actual dentist and he said I shouldn't be experiencing this almost two months after an extraction and something might be wrong. I'm now panicking quite a lot! I have to wait a week for my next appointment where he's going to lift up the gum and irrigate it, maybe get the spicule out, then give me antibiotics.

In the meantime, I'm waiting and going a bit mad. Will this definitely fix it? I'm so anxious and fed up. Also, the discomfort/sensitivity keeps jumping to my top two teeth and making them feel weird/hurt.

I wish this nightmare could end!

Sensitivity to cold is a very odd symptom to go with a bony spicule, so that's a puzzle...

It's hard to say what's actually going on without seeing you, so I'll just have to go along with your dentist, who seems to know what the problem is and how to fix it

I just had the gum surgery - phew - I fainted when I was paying at reception afterwards.
When he went in there, my dentist said he could see the extraction site wasn't healing properly and there was granulation tissue (?) there. He's drilled it down to healthy bone, irrigated it, and sewn me up. He said, like you, he's unsure what is causing the cold sensitivity but to sort this first.
When I asked him if this procedure will mean the extraction site finally heals, he said "I hope so". I wish he could've been more reassuring! I'm so scared something will go wrong again

Thanks for the update. It's interesting, I've no idea what could be causing this issue for you. It might not be a bad idea to add some Vitamin D supplements to your diet, we don't really get enough sunlight in the UK so a bit extra Vitamin D is a good thing.
