I've got a nagging pain in my mouth and I don't know for sure what's causing it. I've often had problems with not being able to tell which tooth is painful, even thinking it's in the upper jaw when it's really a lower one. Usually the pain quickly gets worse and one tooth becomes obviously sensitive etc, and painkillers help a lot, but this time it's a bit different.
This pain has been coming and going, sometimes it doesn't bother me at all, but it usually gets bad at night. Ibuprofen and paracetamol make hardly any difference. It seems to have got worse a couple of weeks ago, but hasn't really been getting steadily worse since.
To me it feels centred on the site of an extraction I had 3 months ago (UR7). I can feel with my tongue that the gum in that area is still changing/healing, but is it likely to still be painful after this long? On the side facing outwards (buccal?) there's what feels like a sharp blade of bone just under the surface, and this is certainly painful if I press on it with my finger, but that's a sharp pain that quickly goes away afterwards.
I feel like it's not much use going to the dentist if I don't know for sure what's causing the pain. I did go a week ago, but none of the suspect teeth hurt when she tapped them. She only tested the top teeth. UR4 and (I think) UR5 were sensitive to cold, and UR4 needed its filling replaced, so she did that, but I'm still getting this pain.
What can I do? What should I do?
