New crown problem

Hi there. I was on a few weeks ago about having a bottom root canal and crown on a post and after being absolutely terrified, I finally had the crown and post put in today. It was such a relief to have the tooth back and was so pleased. However, after a couple of hours I started to fee sensitivity when I touched the tooth either with the top teeth or even touched with my finger and now I can feel it all the time. Is this usual, is it just bedding in or maybe got something to do with the size, is it too big. After being so happy am now panicking again in case I have to lose the tooth. Has anyone had anything similar? Advice appreciated.

Well done for getting the courage to go and get this done. Congratulations Sorry you are having this discomfort though.

Go back to the dentist, your bite might be too high. This is easily fixed by your dentist if that is the problem.

Hi again Carole. I never thought about that, I just think worse case scenario and he is going to say it didn't work and want to pull the tooth. I am going to ring up in the morning, I was just so disappointed as I had four visits and absolutely fine after each one so perhaps I just expected so much from the final one. I was quite emotional when I left, couldn't believe I had been that strong - he will be so surprised to see me back again. Thanks for your help again.

Just thought I would let you know that you were right about the bite Carole and had it altered. I also had cement between the adjoining teeth which he removed. Feels slightly better but he said it might take a few days to settle now the pressure has been relieved. He said there might be bruising but not sure what was bruised and didn't ask -just pleased that it sounded like a plausible answer. He said my gums were slightly inflamed which he said could be because he had been working on it or I might have a bit of infection - he put some cotton wool into the hole between 3rd and 4th visit so he gave me antibiotics just in case but have not taken any. He said to come back if its not settle by middle of next week. Now me being a perpetual worrier am thinking what will happen if it doesn't settle down - what is the next course of action. I keep getting freaked out thinking I might have to lose it after all I have been through I wish I didn't worry so much. Thanks for help.

Hi thank you for letting us know what the outcome was. A lot of problems seem to be caused by bite's being too high but as it is easy to remedy not a big problem.

I think with a bit more time things may well settle down, try not to worry, hard I know. Your dentist obviously listens to you and will do what he can to make things comfortable for you.

Thanks again Carole. Problems still continuing and am going back again tomorrow, he will be sick of seeing me but I still feel some pain like its pressing on something it shouldn't be pressing on. I had a bit of a wobbly this weekend and was thinking should I go to someone else - the longer it takes to sort out the less confident I feel but I think this says more about me than him. I am going abroad in 3 weeks and just want to get it sorted as I don't want anything to go wrong then. You are very supportive and I do appreciate it.

I have had another bite adjustment this morning but still feels quite sensitive. Dentist said it could be like that for a couple of days to give it chance to heal as its probably a bit bruised. If this doesn't work he said he will have to look at the other end of the tooth - he has more or less ruled out infection, and said the other option was that I had a crack in the root canal and it would have to be extracted. I really hope not, it took me all my courage to go through this so don't want to lose the tooth Does anyone know of another option - I have an NHS dentist and don't know whether that this is just the option that the NHS is willing to pay for. If that's the case I will seek private help. Many thanks.
