New here, and a small success story

Hi everyone,

Firstly, I'd just like to say how much this forum has helped me. I am so grateful!

I hadn't been to the dentist for years, and I had what seemed like a chip at the tops of both of my front top teeth, which had become discoloured over a number of years. It was looking so bad that I didn't like smiling and felt very self conscious when I did.

I was doing some research into what could be done for my teeth when I came across this forum. At the time, I was terrified of going to the dentist, but after reading some of the posts here I decided to go for it and make an appointment to get my teeth checked out.
I have to admit, I didn't sleep the night before going and was a nervous wreck. Thankfully there weren't any other problems with my teeth, and my dentist said he could put fillings over the 'chips'
I had the fillings done just over 2 weeks ago now - once again, I was terrified, but my dentist put me at ease.
I'd been reading up and asking people and was told I'd have to have injections, but I didn't - there was no pain involved. I just came out of there a very happy woman with a big grin on my face!
Every time I pass a mirror now I have to smile.
I'm over the moon!
My parents came to visit today and they couldn't believe the difference it's made to me.

Thanks very much again, because if it hadn't been for reading the posts on here I don't think I would have made that first appointment.

I meant to add to my post but not sure if I can edit.

I will be going to visit the hygienist shortly (hopefully) I'm not sure when as the dental surgery are working on a cancellation basis for the hygienist at the moment, so just waiting for a phone call.

I'm not sure what to expect with this so once again, I'm a bit nervous (although not terrified this time - which is good!)

My brother has told me that it's not bad at all, and nothing to worry about. Is that true?

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad posts here have given you courage to go. Cleanings are definitely a breeze but if you're feeling nervous about it you could always ask for laughing gas (which costs extra but in my opinion worth it.) I have to go for a cleaning sometime during this month and am actually looking forward to it.

Thank you Deb89, my brother says he looks forward to his visits to the dentist for cleaning too - it's not something I've ever done, so I'm constantly asking him questions!

The thought of any kind of pain terrifies me (yep, I'm a complete wimp) but it doesn't sound like this will be too bad at all. I asked my dentist if it would hurt and he said no, it'll just be like cold water being sprayed onto your teeth. Since I've got no idea, I'm taking his word for it at the moment!

I'll post again after I've been to the hygienist and let you all know how it went.

Lisa I recently had my first hygienist cleaning since around 1968. No IV, and no LA required... it was just like going to the hairdresser's, and my appointment was only a few days after I had my wisdom tooth out and still had a big fat hole in my mouth so was a bit worried! Honestly NOTHING to worry about. You've already done something far harder and you sailed through!

I'm still waiting for my appointment and at the moment I'm not at all nervous - just looking forward to getting it done!
