The other week I posted this -
So, I had a filling replaced exactly 2 weeks ago. Dentist told me she found 2 fillings in the same tooth, one on top of the other (great!) , and there was some decay (that she obviously removed ) under the first filling. It was a very deep filling, close to the nerve, and she told me that I may require a root canal in the future.
In the first couple of days, I felt a few short , sharp 'stabs' in the area, and after this symptom subsided , I still felt sensitive in the area, so have been eating on the other side. Yesterday I started to experience some dull ache (which eases with ibuprofen), but surely there shouldn't be any symptoms 2 weeks after the filling ?
It seems insane that I would potentially have to book in for a root canal so shortly after having the filling done?
So, I emailed the practice (as the owner replies to all the emails himself ), and he asked me to schedule an appointment with him . After taking an X-ray, he said it could be one of two things - either it was the nerve causing all this pain, or I may need a root canal. He told me to put some Sensodyne toothpaste on the painful area overnight for 3 nights, and if this eased the pain , we'd know it's the nerve. The following night I woke up by the most severe pain, and he told me to book an appointment with him 2 days later ( as he was away) - he said I'd probably need a root canal. Then the night before the appointment, I propped my head up with a few extra pillows, and for the first night in 4 nights, I managed to actually sleep like a log! Went in to see him the following morning. He tapped on my tooth, and I felt nothing. He looked at the X-ray once more, and said that it looks like it is indeed the nerve causing this pain (even 3 weeks after the filling was done), and that it will settle in time. This dentist has run this practice for 20 odd years, and he's not had one bad review. But why do I doubt that it's simply the nerve causing all this discomfort? I havens been woken up by it since, but I do wake up with some discomfort, and some days I need to take ibuprofen as the dull ache bothers me. Has anyone else experienced anything similar ?
