Hey everyone, I got my 2 upper and 1 bottom left (impacted) wisdom teeth out a week ago today on May 11, and I'm still having pretty intense pain and an AWFUL smell. I've seen my oral surgeon twice since, including a trip today. He was very quick to tell me that everything looked fine and normal with no dry socket or infection, and that the pain is just inflammation. He gave me a syringe to clear out food and whatnot in the hole of my bottom socket. I followed all the directions, including rinsing my mouth multiple times every day with salt water, and today I started using diluted hydrogen peroxide before bed as well to hopefully tame the putrid smell. I am a redhead, and supposedly I'm more susceptible to inflammation, but I hardly had any swelling or bruising at all?
Something in my gut is telling me something is wrong. The left side is still throbbing...3 Advil every 6 hours helps, but as soon as it wears off the pain goes from a 3/10 to a 7/10. Even though I clean the socket thoroughly with the syringe after every meal and use this mouthwash and brush my teeth, I can still feel and taste this horrible liquid occasionally ooze out into my mouth. What is causing this? What can I do? I'm getting super frustrated because everyone I know who's had their wisdom teeth out recovered relatively quickly...and I have many upcoming summer plans that I'd hate to be impacted by this pain and smell. Any advice would be much appreciated!
