My Mom has had dentures for 40+ years, no teeth at all. Since 1995 she has had intermittent waves of sever gum pain. This latest episode is the worse, she can't even talk.

She has had new dentures made, been to three oral surgens, countless dentists. No one can find the cause of the pain. She can numb it with Ambesol temporarily. They think it's nerve pain but can't find the reason. She is really suffering.

Does anyone have any ideas what she can do, who she can see, what she can take ? This is really taking a toll on both Mom and Dad. They have been referred to yet another DDS.

Please help.

It's difficult to say without taking a look, but the first things that pop into my mind are maybe dry mouth, candidiasis, or maybe trigeminal neuralgia. What's her mouth look like without the dentures in? Does she have dry mouth? Are the tissues nice and pink looking or are they angry, firey red?

I haven't seen it myself since shes in FL and I'm in MA right now, but all indications from everyone shes seen is everything looks perfectly normal. It looks like trigeminal neuralgia describes her condition perfectly. I will let my Dad know to ask the doctors about that. Thank you so much for the help!

One other possibility might be a sensitivity to any free monomers coming from the new denture or perhaps the acrylic itself.
