Question about the facial nerve along the jawline.

Hi, im a 20 year old male who is almost 100% healthy, with no drug or food allergies and not a single medical record. Untill 6 months ago. I was diagnosed with a very vicious odontogenic keratocyst which had eaten away slight amounts of my lower left mandible. I have just got back home from the treatment, marsupialization and they have cleaned out the cyst.

Like any cyst, it may return, however, that is not the thing im worried about. I have a relatively fast healing body as the swelling of my lips has gone down drastically in just 2 days. However, i was warned of the risk of damage to the facial nerve that runs on the jawline, the nerve that controls half of the lower lip and chin. Both the lip and chin feel numb even 48 hours after surgery. The doctor said it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year to recover, some cases also state that they dont recover. Im very sensitive to facial issues and considering the fact that i never had any medical conditions, this has affected me more mentally than physically.

Can someone enlighten me on weather the nerve will be back to normal ?

It will take time to find out. Your doctor has given you the correct answer. Be sure to follow-up with your surgeon for many years to come. I diagnosed one earlier this year when I was in the Dominican Republic.
