Hello there!

I have quite a few questions come up since my consultation about getting my Wisdom teeth getting taken out.

I'm currently living in Germany and was a bit disappointed to hear I only get a L.A. for my extraction (I should have got it done while I was still living in the states and on my parent's insurance...but I'm a chicken!)

Whatever the case, I've never really had any kind of dental procedures other than getting braces. I've never received a shot or anything. I don't really know what to expect.

This being said; I warned the dentist that my biggest fear is of gagging. I don't mind that they're doing this procedure awake, but years of getting impressions done really made my gag reflex a bit sensitive. All 4 of my wisdom teeth are impacted and they will have to work far back in my mouth to get them out.

My oral surgeon didn't seem concerned: She mentioned she could numb my gag reflex with some strategically placed shots (in addition to the normal shots) and that she would give me an acupuncture needle to help against it. They will also be giving me a mild sedative, something along the lines of Xanax.

Do you have any experience with this? If I'm numbed up correctly, will I feel anything that might trigger my gag reflex?

I would appreciate any or all advice on this manner. Thanks so much!

Is there any more background I may be able to give to have this question answered...

I'm quite nervous and my oral surgeon doesn't really explain anything to me...I would appreciate any help!

The sedation and acupuncture combination should work pretty well to control the gagging for you, it's not likely to be a big issue.

Thanks, that's reassuring!! :):-*
