hi there
i recently had my wisdom teeth out - had fun with that!!!
anyway ive got a weird sensitivty issue going on with one of my teeth i am hoping its just thats its 5 weeks after my wisdom teeth were removed and my mouth is shfting etc but i got a gut feeling that this particularr tooth is dying as it has a very old deep filling..........
so i have read loads about root canal - managed to get in touch with a nhs dentist that will perfrm it under IV sedation if need be but i have ocd and i have a thing about comtamination with chemicals and ive just learnt that they clean the canals with BLEACH!!! is it like household bleach?? will i smell or taste it? i am now because of this info seriously thinking abot just getting the tooth pulled because the idea of the bleach is freaking me out!!!!!
sorry if this seems silly but i just cant help it - i am so scared of dentists and have now found out "my dentist" has many court cases looming so i guess it wasnt just me that had no confidence - i am as i said waiting for the community dental servce and will see them 26th september im a little worried its so far away and hope nothing goes real bad in the meantime but the bleach thing is really freaking me out!!! if i am going to smell bleacj i really am not going to be able to handle it being done :(

Hi Angeloutcast
You should be in good hands with the CDS which I understand is now the SDS assuming this is not the dentist with the outstanding complaints (if it is avoid and go elsewhere). If you are sedated you will be even more unaware of the treatment.
I don't recall smelling bleach particularly - I expect it is a special surgical version they use rather than a bottle from Tescos lol - the dentist should protect your tooth with a rubber dam and this has many benefits including stopping you from tasting any bleach.
Good luck - it should be fine.

Thanks Brit!! i just saw bleach and assumed something smeeling like the bottle from tesco LOL i just cant handle teh smell or teh thought of it being in my mouth in case i swallow it although i am now haappy to see a rubber dam if thats used by the comunity dental service that will be geat for teh swallowing - and hopefully i wont smell the bleach although i am thinking probaly IV sedatio but teh problem with me is i may bottle the sedation on the day - i love to terrorise myself i really do i dont know why i dont just make life easy on myself!!!
I was reffered to the community dental service by my gp they have already said they will pretty much take me because of teh agorophobia and ocd i have my first appointment on teh 26th so no work that day just assessing myteeth obviously im just trying to prepare for the "you need a root canal" because i honestly do think its coming for that tooth! im quite happy to be treated by them i have heard good things about teh service and the actual dentist im seeing - "my dentist" is not good and i am to be frank refusing point blank to go back there she was recommended by a friend but said friend has since been going there once a week for the last 6 weeks to have the same crown reset as it keeps falling out!!! his teeth are in a bad way and he recetly started dating a ex dental hygienist who has told him she thinks its because of this dentist!!! but hes in his 50s and very set in his ways and doesnt like change so refuses to move dentist each to his own!!!! i was sitting in an emergency dentist (related to teh community dental service in same building same floor) and a girl was moaning about my dentist to the recptionist!!!! so i guess its not just me (which to be honest i thought it was) so im glad ive got the oppunity to get to see a dentist who will be undertanding to my anxiety im actually a little excited as i really want my teeth sorted properly due to teh agorophobia ive not been to a dentist much!!!!! and recently having teh wisdom teeth out all 4 makes me feel like i just want to sort them all out now but little things like BLEACH in my mouth dont help lol altho you telling me about teh rubber dam has helped ease a bit!!!!! thank you x
