I have a couple old silver fillings and one is giving problems and may need to be refilled. Has anyone here had silver fillings removed and replaced. I ask because on the net I read so much about the dangers of that and mercury poisoning if not done by a biological dentist.

I have had a deep silver filling removed and re-done. It is fine and you will be fine. One of the dentist on here once said that if anyone was in danger from removing silver fillings it would be the dentist more than the patient as they do it daily we only have this done rarely in comparison.

Don't worry you are in no danger.

And to add to others, there is such little mercury in these fillings that it will not hurt us. You are totally FINE! (Coming from a 30 year old lady who has had large silver fillings in a lot of my molars since high school.)

Thank you for your input. I feel more comfortable.

I had this done today. I had a silver filling on the biting surface of a molar put in about 20 years ago. The filling was fine, but I developed a cavity between teeth involving the tooth with the filling. Since the original filling would've been in the way, she redid the entire filling during the process.

She had her assistant holding a suction thing right next to the tooth as she drilled, so there didn't seem to be anything to worry about. And it took just as little time as any other filling too, which I was happy about lol. :)
