Teeth beyond help?
Wonder if you guys can help me - I have a really good dentist - he's the kind of guy that tells you exactly how it is and does not suggest unnecessary procedures and very gentle cuz I'm terrified.
When I was younger I had braces and never brushed/flossed properly. This came back to bite me big time about 10 yrs ago. Many fillings and many crowns later I became almost obsessive with my teeth care.
I brush with an electric toothbrush twice a day and also use a water pick. I floss after every meal and rinse with mouthwash several times a day. I don't eat a lot of bad foods (the kind that would cause decay). Every 6 months I get my cleaning and check up. Despite this I still need something done nearly every year.
My dentist told me that no matter what I do I will always need to get my old fillings replaced and eventually have all the crowns replaced (with root canals). My gums now have slight gum disease - again he says there is nothing I can do. He says that it's hereditary and to keep doing what I'm doing until the inevitable happens.
I've never doubted him before.. but really? There is NOTHING I can do. With all the supposed advances I just need to keep being obsessivly clean while my teeth rot?
Any help/advise would be great. I'm very disheartened about this.
TIA
