Hi Janey, so sorry you're in so much pain with your TMJ :(. Hopefully the pain will ease soon.

I've heard that Arnica cream can help with this sort of pain if you have some.

Applying moist heat can also help ease the pain. Maybe freakout who's got lots of first-hand experience with tmj problems may be able to give you some more tips tomorrow!

Please give your dentist a call tomorrow and see what other painkillers might work for you.

Wishing you a speedy recovery :)

Hi Janey...I am sorry the TMJ is acting up. As Lets has said I do have alot of first hand knowledge about TMJ (way too much knowledge :P)

Chances are the the TMJ acted up due to the work the dentist did on the bridge. Having to hold your mouth open, often causes the joints to flare up. One thing you could do when having future dental work, is ask for a bite block. This is a little rubber piece that helps to hold your mouth open, and takes some of the strain off of the joints.

Lets was spot on. Warm moist compresses applied right in front of the ear will help the muscles to relax. Some dentists also recommend ice to reduce any swelling, but I have found that warm moist heat works best for me. But as Lets has said, I would call your dentist. If the muscles leading to the joints are in spasm, (which often happens from dental treatment) the dentist may be able to prescribe some muscle relaxants to help relax them.

Hope this helps.
