Sad but true. I have been in pain from this tooth for 5 years.it's broken to the gum and moves alot. Really scary stuff. I just spent the last hour crying on my husband's shoulder. He offered to make me an appointment tomorrow while I'm at work. I'm off at noon and will be off the day after so he's telling me its the best time to get it done. There's just so many factors I'm scared of. I'm 17 weeks pregnant, will I be in too much pain to function (I am not good at laying around lazy) and when I go in the surgeon will make fun or scold me for my fear. I know this is rediculous but I'm more scared of this then labor. I know Im just being daft but any kind words of wisdom will help. Thank you all. Youre all so brave. I hope I can be the same.

Hello turtlelove, I understand your fear - I stayed away from the dentist for 20 years as I was too scared of extractions. You are doing the right thing by getting an appointment and it sounds like your hubby will be going with you? Make sure you take a cushion or something to ensure you are comfortable in the chair, there is nothing worse than being uncomfortable physically and psychologically. Also bear in mind there may be other options possible - you wont know until they take a proper look and you are doing the right thing by getting it seen to as you will need your good health and energy for your new arrival.

I hope all goes well for you

Best wishes

Like you, i also dreaded "the lecture". That was one of the reasons that i did not go to my dentist for 13 years. One lousy chipped tooth and a molar that needed to be extracted prevented me from going, and prevented me from living my life and smiling.

God doesn't give us courage, He gives us the chance to be courageous.

I wish you all the best

Hi the dentist won't scold you, they are there to help and they want to help us. The first appointment isn't usually for any treatment to be done. They like to be able to have a look at our teeth and maybe take an x ray if you think you could manage that. You need to meet the dentist and see what they advise, also you need to feel that you could work with the person you choose.

As for having the tooth removed if that is what is needed, don't worry you won't feel a thing. Once they have made sure you are numb they will prepare the tooth or root in your case and just lift it out. It will not take long. I just had a bottom front tooth out and it took all of 5 seconds. They say you may feel a little pressure but I didn't, it was so quick and comfortable.

I hope you soon feel you could let your husband make you an appointment, you will be fine. The dentists on here say a root is easier to remove than a full tooth.

All the best to you :butterfly:

Hi turtlelove,

I'm sorry you are going through this. I can completely relate - I avoided going to the dentist for 19 years and ended up with a badly decayed tooth which is now being r/c treated. I'm now constantly worrying about how long it will last! I wish I had an answer to how to stop tooth extraction fear taking over your life - it is certainly taking over mine!

You are making the right decision though. I hope your appointment goes well. I don't know whether your fear is the actual surgery or having one tooth less. If you are like me, in fear of having a missing tooth, at least we live in a age where we can get dental implants.

I wish I had something more positive to say..I really do!

Good luck & best wishes

Thank you all for the kind replies. My appointment for the extraction is at 10 am tomorrow. Keep me in your thoughts I am trying my hardest to get through this. Just keep on thinking all the pain and worry will be over for good. :jump::redface: Mixed feelings. Thank you again.

Best of luck to you, I hope it goes smoothly.
