What is next if clindamycin doesn't work?

I haven't been able to bite with mine since late September. I really want to be able to again. The endodontist said to give it 6 weeks to see if the infection is gone, but it is so hard to wait. I have plans coming up for travel in April and June, and I want things settled, one way or another.

I’ve not bitten with mine in over a year. I can’t imagine ever doing so again now, I have just changed the way I eat. I have been told by my own dentist and a max-fac specialist that I should, and I just can’t bring myself to do it. I probably need therapy, tbh!

I have only had six months of not using it. I can see getting used to it after a year. If I ever get this tooth crowned, I imagine I won't be biting into anything hard for a long time, if ever. I would be happy to be able to eat a sandwich!

Good news that your tooth seems to be settling, not so great about the reaction to the antibiotics and I hope the tooth tightens a bit more or at least allows you to eat again.

Does this mean no extractions? Both front teeth are doing ok? ??

We don't know for sure. The lateral incisor is still hurting off and on, and is still a "wait and see". The front tooth may or may not settle completely. It is still a little tender, but definite improvement! However, the endodontist did say this was a last ditch effort. She was hesitant to use the clindamycin because of the possible side effects, but it was the last thing that could work before extraction. I am still at risk for c.diff since I was taking so many antibiotics before the clindamycin. My doctor said it can hit me up to 3 months after ending the antibiotics. Yikes!
My mouth isn't getting any worse today, which is good news! My whole face is itchy, but no rash. I am actually surprised that I am not more anxious about the reactions, but I am trying to let the worries go as much as possible and take one day at a time.

So not quite in a place of complete relief... but good to hear you are managing anxiety differently. I go in waves with mine but ok the whole the ongoing nature of things seems to mean you have no other way of coping if you don't surrender to the unknown to some extent but I'm happy you have a few signs of progress.

I will say that I am hopeful about the two molars that need crowns. I have not had anymore spontaneous pain, just aching when I chew, which is normal with cracks. I am really hoping prepping for the crown does not aggravate them! I am getting one done on April 9. I have the other scheduled for May 9, but may put it off until after my June vacation. I don't want to be traveling out of the country with two temp crowns. That is just begging for something to go wrong. Lol
