Hi all.

I had my upper right 6 molar removed on Thursday morning. My dentist said I could smoke 24 hours after the procedure. I held off and when I did smoke it was light puffs on the left of my mouth. I have been gently salt water rinsing, brushing but not on the extraction site and largely sticking to soft foods.
Its now about 75 hours since the extraction and I am not in pain but I don't think that the clot is in the socket. It feels like my gum has grown over as I can't feel a hole either. Is this possible? I've spent the last 3 days living in fear of dry socket as most advice says dont smoke for 72 hours. My dentist said 24 was fine. Does this sound like it's healing normally?

to me sounds normal. I got mine extracted 2weeks go. all top tooth. well.im a smoker too, so I know how you feel. My dentist said don't smoke for 48hrs. well every dentist is little different. I took care of my gums very well except smoking. I took a chance and smoked 13hrs after extraction. I know that's really bad.. I would never going to say "go ahead smoke way, I did". I would say that if you can holdout cig. I would hold out as long as possible. I couldn't do it but I go lucky. 75hrs is pretty safe from dry socket. but everyone is different. I would just be careful for 10 days. smoke gently and fewest possible. your extraction site is going to have lots of different looks ( white/yellow stuff or even big hole,) but I heard that was normal as long as you don't have pain. good luck to you!!! hope this helped.
