I've just turned 28 and I know I need every tooth removed. I never had any oral hygiene routine when I was a child and wasn't taken to the dentist until a week before my 18th birthday by this point I needed so much work that I was expected to pay for so that's as far as the dentist thing went.
because I never brushed my teeth as a child, by the time I was old enough to know that's something you HAVE to do, it was far to painful.
To go along with that, I have a huge phobia of needles and obviously the dentist (I think this is purely embarrassment at this point)
I have teeth that have crumbled, broken, every tooth has decay and most have pieces missing and are wobbly now!
My back tooth is broken and infected and making me have earache and jaw pain. I can barely eat or drink now.
I don't socialise, if someone speaks to me I turn away to reply to them or make an excuse to cover my mouth.
My husband hasn't mentioned it but you really can't miss them. They are the worst I have ever seen!
To top it all off my father passed away when I was a baby from an infected tooth that damaged his heart so I'm terrified!!! I have no family I can talk to about it and I'm far too embarrassed to bring this up with my husband! I just don't know where to go from here. The situation feels impossible but the pain is ridiculous now and I know if I leave it much longer there could be serious health problems!
Any advice or just support would be amazing

I understand exactly how you feel.

It seems so overwhelming but try to stay focused on taking one day at a time.

when you are ready, you can start getting them out. You will feel better and be more healthy.

we are here to talk to :)

Oh wow, you sound like me a year ago! I was in the exact same situation, although I was 23. One of my front teeth was broken in half. Most of my teeth had visible decay. Many were broken down to the gum line. I had intermittent pain and swelling.

The thing that kicked me into going was my mother offering to go to the dentist with me. As tactfully as she could, she brought up the fact that I was obviously too shy to speak to anyone as a result of my teeth. I really think you should try talking to your husband as a form of support. Explain that you really want to get them treated, but that you have a bad phobia.

Search for dentists in your area that have good reviews. There are many dentists out there that advertise themselves as phobic-friendly. And *please* don't be too ashamed to go. I promise you, from the bottom of my heart, that the dentist has seen much worse and won't be fazed by your mouth, not in the slightest. I already told you how bad mine were. The dentist didn't bat an eye! Neither did any of the assistants or nurses in my journey to sort my mouth out. They were there to do their job, not judge!

I had all my teeth out and now have dentures. It's not as bad as it sounds. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer.

Best wishes :) :hug4:

I was terrified to get speeches from nurses or the dentist about my teeth but no. They're professionals. They're not there to judge. They're there to figure out a good treatment for you. I used to hate when my boyfriend would ask me to smile because I knew he just wanted to look at my crooked, decaying front tooth. It just comes to a point where you know you have to get treatment.

Hey girl! My name is Jamie and I'm also 28 and going to the dentist tomorrow to have every tooth extracted and getting immediate dentures and in 6 months getting permanent ones. I'm absolutely terrified but can understand EVERYTHING you're going thru, but i have faith that after taking the leap, we'll be so grateful that we did no more toothaches, sore gums, bleeding and just downright pain. Its going to be SO worthit! If you want to talk im here for you! We can do this together!

Jamie
